Cataloging DVDs using the CueCat barcode scanner

You can drastically reduce the time it takes to add DVDs to your database. Use the CueCat barcode scanner to swipe the barcodes of your DVDs. Movie Collector uses the barcodes to download all information from the internet, including the cover images. You don't have to type anything yourself, so you'll have your entire DVD collection cataloged in no time at all.

Software Integration

The Movie Collector software has fully integrated support for the CueCat scanner.
The program uses the scanned barcodes to look up DVD information in our own online DVD database, as well as Amazon US, Amazon UK, Amazon Canada, Amazon Germany and Amazon Japan. This list of sources will provide great results on Region 1 (US) DVDs and reasonable coverage on Region 2 and Region 4 editions.
DVDs that cannot be found by barcode can of course still be added to your database by using the Title search feature.

Scanning tips for the Cuecat

The Cuecat is extremely easy to install and use: after plugging it into a free USB port of your Windows or Mac computer, the scanner is ready to be used in Movie Collector. Start Movie Collector, and go to the add automatically screen using the menu Edit | Add Moviess automatically

Hold the CueCat reader between your thumb and forefinger like a pen or pencil. Place the nose of the CueCat on the left side of the code, but not within the code itself
Align the cat's paws with the bottom of the code. Tip the CueCat forward so that the nose is also in contact with the surface of the item.
Move the CueCat reader smoothly from left to right across the code in one fluent and rather quick motion. Remember to keep the reader in contact with the code throughout the swipe for an accurate reading.
